1stSGT Harold Edward Schumacher

1Sgt. Harold Edward Schumacher (Ret.), 72, husband of Gloria Logsdon Schumacher, of Easley, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

Born in Louisville, KY, he was a son of the late Harold Eugene and Audrey Williams Schumacher.

1Sgt. Schumacher retired from the US Marines after 23 years of service and is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Navy Commendation Medal (with star), the Combat Action Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation (with 4 stars), the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation, and several others. After retiring from the US Marines, he taught at Wren High School in their NJROTC program. He was involved in the Greenville Marine Corps League, and the Upstate Young Marine program.

He loved to play the fiddle and would often play in high school talent shows and was also a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church Orchestra for several years.

In addition to his loving wife of 47 years, Edward is survived by a son, Daniel E. Schumacher who is currently resides in Germany; a daughter, Natalie J. Gilbert (Joey) of Tampa, FL; a brother, William Schumacher (Michelle) of Mt. Washington, KY; and three grandchildren, Kylie, Katie, and Carter Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his sister Maryann Schumacher.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Rock Springs Baptist Church. 

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the church.

Burial will take place at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church Music Ministry, 201 Rock Springs Road Easley, SC 29642.
