A. Michael HekkingCentral, SCAlan Michael Hekking, 68, of Central passed away at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Cindy Hekking, on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.Born in Salinas, Kansas, he was the son of Alan Marteen Hekking and Rosemary Henrich Hartwell.  Mike was a graduate of Cardinal Newman High School and the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.  As a mechanical engineer, he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority for 20 years and was the youngest person ever promoted to plant manager.  Mike later performed investigative work and served as a expert witness in support of the Department of Justice's enforcement of the Clean Air Act.  He was recently recognized by the DOJ for his great work in pollution prevention.He is survived by sons, David (Rachel), Jeffrey (Cindy) and Lee (Gosia) Hekking; brother, Gary Hekking; sisters, Diane Coates, Carol Tripp and Gail Sutton; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.After cremation, Mike's ashes were scattered at his beloved cabin in Central, SC, in a private family ceremony.Donations in Mike's memory may be made to GHS Hospice of the Foothills Foundation, c/o Oconee Memorial Hospital Foundation, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC.In lieu of donations, spend some time with your family outdoors.Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, SC.
