Absalom W. "Ab" Snell

Absalom W. "Ab" Snell ,90, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, September 12, 2014.
He was born in Parler, SC to Algernon and Julia Snell. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Harvey and Fred, and his two sisters, Helen and Milwee.
He served in World War II as a pilot in the USA Troop Carrier Command in the European Theater retiring as a Lt. Colonel in the Army Air Force Reserves.
He graduated in 1949 from Clemson College and earned a Masters degree from Iowa State University in 1952 and Doctorate from North Carolina State University in 1964. He served as head of Clemson University's Department of Agricultural Engineering from 1955-1974, with added responsibilities as Chairman of the Directorate of the Clemson University Water Resources Institute from 1964-1974. He served as Associate Director of Clemson's Agricultural Experiment Stations from 1975 and as Acting Director from 1986 until his retirement from Clemson University in 1988.
He was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church for over 60 years serving on many committees and boards including the Methodist Men in Mission. He was a long time volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and was also a member of the Clemson Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Lou Snell, his children: Rodney Snell (Anita) of Sedalia, MO, Nancy Snell of Decatur, GA, Carla Russell (Tim) of Simpsonville, SC, and Janet Snell Kelly (Michael) of East Aurora, NY.
He has five grandchildren ? Travis Snell (Krystal) of LaMonte, MO, Brandon Snell (Jessica) of Sedalia, MO, Kyle Kelly of Sumter, SC, Julia Snell of Decatur, GA, and Kalyn Kelly of Atlanta, GA. He has four great grandchildren: Harrison, Claire, Allis, and Catherine.
A private burial will be held on Sunday followed by a Memorial Service at 3 pm at Clemson United Methodist Church, Clemson, SC. A reception will be held immediately after the service.
