Agnes Burgess Beaty Owings

Agnes Burgess Beaty Owings died Friday, June 21 at The Woodlands at Furman in Greenville. She was born in Manning, South Carolina, January 24, 1921; daughter of the late Francis Parker Burgess and Frances Moore Burgess.
After graduating from Columbia College she taught in the schools of Beaufort, Georgetown, and Charleston, South Carolina. She lived in Charleston from 1952 until 1991 and then in Clemson until August 2011.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Edgar Elliott Beaty, a sister Harriott Pinckney Burgess, and her second husband M. A. "Jake" Owings.
She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina and of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Clemson, South Carolina. Her summers were spent in Saluda, North Carolina, where she attended The Church of the Transfiguration.
Survivors include three step-children, Ammie Owings Weymer, Marvin A. Owings Jr., and Nettie Owings Sweet; six step-grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in Clemson at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends after the service.
Interment will be at Church of the Holy Cross, Highway 261 North, Stateburg, South Carolina, at 4 p.m. on Thursday following the service. A reception will follow in the church parish house.
