Alice H. Godley

Alice Hogarth Godley, age 87, of 150 Downs Blvd, Clemson, SC, wife of the late Dr. W. Cecil Godley, died at the Clemson Downs Health Care Center, May 5, 2010.
Born in Brunson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Willock Farrow and Edith Meyer Hogarth. She attended Winthrop College and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1943 with a major in business. Alice was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Clemson where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a Girl Scout leader and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
What brought her the most joy in her life was being a wife, homemaker and mother to her three girls.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara (John) Fulmer of Hixson, TN, Kathryn (Tim) Dunmyer of Clemson, SC, & Jeannie (Steve) Rigdon of Tifton, GA., grandchildren, Russell Fulmer of Hixson, TN, Shannon (Philip) Alexander of Nashville, TN, Zack (Kimberly) Fulmer of Winter Garden, FL., Alice Rigdon of Atlanta, GA., Sarah Dunmyer of Lexington, SC, & David Rigdon of Tifton, GA. & 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, John (Mickey) Boyden Hogarth of Kinston, NC & James Maxwell (Marylee) Hogarth of Brunson, SC, sister-in-law, Dorothy (Dot) Roberts of Jacksonville, FL. and 3 nieces & 2 nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Christopher Dunmyer.
The family would like to thank the staff of AnMed ICU & 5th floor, the Hospice of the Upstate & the staff of the Downs Retirement Center in Clemson for the exceptional care given their mother. Most especially they would like to thank the wonderful ladies of Guardian Home Health for the loving, compassionate care given during the past 8 months Tammy, Mary, Rebecca, Janice, Carolyn, Debra, Brenda, & Fran. We were blessed to have you with us.
After a family burial in Woodland Cemetery (Cemetery Hill) in Clemson, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the First Baptist Church Clemson, with reception and visitation immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christopher D. Dunmyer Memorial Fund at the Clemson University Foundation, 110 Daniel Dr., Clemson, SC 29631.
