Allen C. Brietzke, 71, passed away on April 16, 2015 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
On Thursday this past week, my Uncle Allen Brietzke passed away. He was more than just an uncle to me. He was a HUGE part of my childhood. He never married and had no kids so his four nieces were his world, along with the rest of the family in Northwest Indiana. He was there for every family celebration. If you invited him to come, he would be there! He was the Uncle that put you on his shoulders and carried you around the house. He bought the best Christmas presents! I believe that one of his favorite times with his nieces was at Christmas when he would take us shopping and then to the movies. It was our special time with him alone. He loved my mom's cooking and was over every Sunday for a home cooked meal. He was the biggest Cubs fan of them all, watching every game, and listening to them on the radio. It was a family tradition for many years to go to a Cubs home game, ten of us in all. It was getting harder and harder for him to live alone due to health reasons, so he moved to South Carolina where My Uncle Don and Aunt Sue live. He lived the past two years at a VAHome there. I last saw him before he left, maybe 5 years ago, at a Lone Star restaurant. I don't think it was till he actually drove away that it hit me that it might be the last time I saw him. I've struggled the past 6 months, not sure if I should visit. I never did. I just hope he knows how much I love him and I really do miss him. He is now without pain, and back with all the family and friends that have gone before him. I love you so much Uncle Allen. You will never be forgotten!
