Allowee Gilstrap Merck, 83, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Cottingham Hospice House. She was born on June 25, 1928 to parents, Herman and Carrie Leanna Gilstrap, both deceased. She was also predeceased by her husband, Lewis J. Merck.

Following graduation from Six Mile High School, Allowee continued to Business School and then went on to become a successful self-made business owner. She was active in Real Estate until the summer of 2011. She loved her career and said there was not a day she did not look forward to going to work,

She was a member of the Clemson First Baptist Church. She belonged to a cut throat bridge club that played weekly and continues on. Bridge and shopping were her two favorite hobbies. She loved her friends and family unconditionally.

Some of her favorite sayings were "You attract more flies with honey than vinegar." And "If you have it-you don�??t have to flaunt it."

Allowee is survived by her daughter, Leanna; her son Lewis, son in law, Jeff, two grandchildren, Alicia and Kacey and one great grandchild, Kaden and Amanda Porter.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 20 at 10am at Old Stone Church Cemetery.
