Amy Kathleen Bono Parrish, 53, of 103 Andrews Corner, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Regency Hospital after a 20 year battle with Scleroderma.
Born in Granite City, Illinois, Amy was the daughter of Alvin and Wilma Kathleen Bono, of Easley. Amy was an honor graduate of Bradley University, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and a chemistry major. She was a Big Sister for the Clemson Sigma Kappa Chapter for several years. During her working career, Amy was employed in outside sales and technical service for DuPont Canada and Ciba Geigy. More recently, Amy worked for Teknor Color in Fountain Inn.
Amy was a member of First United Methodist Church, Easley, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women. Amy was a member of the Board of the National Scleroderma Foundation and was President of the SC Chapter. In addition, Amy was a member of the Nosegay Garden Club and as an avid reader, the Literary Bored Book Club. Before her illness advanced, she was an accomplished rider and continued supporting Greenville Foothills Pony Club through her daughter�??s competitions.
She was a member of the Board, National Scleroderma Foundation. Amy was president and founder of the South Carolina Chapter of the Scleroderma Foundation, organizing an annual Scleroderma Walk since 2006. She attended many Foundation events and was an active fundraiser for Scleroderma, personally lobbying for Scleroderma awareness in Washington D.C.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Jack Smith Parrish, Jr., and a daughter, Frances Kathleen Parrish, both of the home, and a special friend and physician, Dr. Richard Silver.
Funeral services will be 3:30 PM Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scleroderma Foundation-SC Chapter, 1027 S. Pendleton Street B244, Easley, SC 29642.
The family will receive friends at the home.
