She was born in Clemson on October 12, 1951 to Dr. Victor and Henrietta Hurst. She attended D.W. Daniel High School (Class of '69).

In addition to managing her veterinary practice, Edisto Pet Clinic, Dr. Hurst served on the Board of Trustees for Lander University and the Orangeburg Civic Ballet. She was active in both Rotary Club of Orangeburg and Rotary International, as well as the American Veterinary Medical Association and S.C. Association of Veterinarians.

Both she and her family wish to express thanks for all of the cards, phone calls, messages, and visits. Contact with loved ones kept her flashing her famous smile until the end.
