Anthony Massingill, a dedicated member of the Pickens County community and a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on December 16, 2025, at the age of 62.
Born on July 8, 1963, in Easley, South Carolina, Anthony was known for his commitment to public service and his kind-hearted nature. He was the only son of the late Jackie B. Massingill and Mickie Collins Massingill.
For nearly 30 years, Anthony served with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, where he left an incredible mark on those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His involvement in unique activities, such as playing donkey baseball with fellow officers and participating in bear fights at the Pickens County Fair, showcased his spirited personality. One notable incident exemplifying his character involved him picking up an escaped inmate in the family minivan, as the inmate had insisted on surrendering only to him. This story became a testament to the trust and respect he garnered throughout his career, even among those he was tasked with supervising.
Those who knew Anthony remember him as a jack of all trades, with a talent for carpentry, cabinetry, and plumbing. He had a love for his family that was palpable, and he often shared moments of joy with them while enjoying his favorite pastime of watching classic westerns, particularly "Gunsmoke."
He is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Fletcher Massingill; his children, Van Massingill (Haley) of Easley, SC, Alicia (Kevin) Reddy of Washington, and Georgie, Kristyn, and Ellie Massingill; his grandchildren, River and Haven Massingill, and Paetyn Reddy; his Aunt and Uncle, Linda and Lloyd Edmond, and his cousin, Julie Cowart (Jeff).
