Arie Chastain Gillespie Gaines, 87, formerly of Easley, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek in Arden, NC.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Julius M. and Pearl Chapman Chastain. Her first husband, and father of her two children, was George W. Gillespie; her second husband was Benjamin F. Gaines.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Gillespie King of Gastonia, NC, Sandra Gillespie Dodgens of Arden, NC; four sisters, Ethel Lesley of Pelzer, Connie Gaillard, Grace Fields, both of Easley, Nellie McGuire of Anderson; five grandchildren, Cynthia King and husband Jerry Adams of Newport, TN, Elizabeth King and husband Alan Elkins of Gastonia, NC, Thomas A. King and wife Leila of Nashville, TN, Amy King and husband Haines Higginbotham of Gastonia, NC, Kendall Dodgens and husband Michael Philabaum of Massillon, OH; five great-grandchildren, Alex Elkins, Meredith, Carter, and Addison Higginbotham, all of Gastonia, Noah Philabaum of Massillon, OH; a special friend, Myra Burrell of Easley; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Chastain, Roy Chastain; a sister, Mable Watson; and a son-in-law, Thomas King.
A graveside service will be Noon Saturday at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Tom Jones officiating.
Visitation will be prior to the graveside service from 10:45 until 11:45 AM at Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice; 571 South Allen Road; Flat Rock, NC 28731.
