Avey Gilstrap
Liberty

Avey Hughes Gilstrap, 81, of Liberty, wife of the late James William Gilstrap Sr. went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Manna Health & Rehab of Pickens.

Born in Pickens County, Mrs. Gilstrap was a daughter of the late Lawrence Clayton and Pallie Gassaway Hughes. She was a homemaker and a member of Calumet Baptist Church since her teenage years. Mrs. Gilstrap spent her life loving and caring for others. She lived an excellent example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Her family was always her greatest pride and joy. While the last few years had taken a toll on her body with declining health, she never lost her sense of humor or her love for the Lord. She knew where her strength and healing came from. The family wishes to thank the staff at Manna Health & Rehab for becoming family and friends and for taking care of Avey in such a loving and caring manner.

Surviving are a son, James William Gilstrap Jr. and wife Tammy of Easley; a grandson, Nathan Lee Gilstrap (Alana) of Liberty; a granddaughter, Nicole Gilstrap Davis (Adam); a great-grandson, Colt William Davis of Easley; a sister, Beulah Hughes Smith of Liberty; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Alfred, Johnny, JC and James (Pick) Hughes.
