Barbara Ann Fuerst, 82 years of age, wife of the late Fred F. Fuerst, passed away August 18, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Barbara was born on August 13, 1935, in Rochester, NY, to the late H. Robert & Grace K. Johnson.
Barbara attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio where she met & married Fred. Surviving are three children, Kathleen Carney (John) of Sunset, SC; Nancy Rand (Ben) of Orchard Park, NY; Colonel Richard Fuerst, USMC (Julie) of Iwakuni, Japan; a brother, Thomas Johnson (Helen) of Hemet, California; six grandchildren, Joshua Fuerst, Kelly Rand, Melissa Fuerst, Alex Rand, Emily Rand, and Anna Fuerst.
Barbara and Fred were married for 54 years and raised their three children in Rochester, NY, Scotch Plains, NJ, Rockville, Ct, and Wadsworth, Ohio. Barbara's focus in life was family and friends. She also enjoyed an accounting career with Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, in Akron, Ohio. Barb and Fred retired to Fripp Island, South Carolina in 1992 where they were avid golfers, sports enthusiasts, traveled the world and spent time with their many friends. Barbara was an active member of the Fripp Island community, especially enjoyed swimming, and was an avid bridge player and active member of ACBL. She was six points shy of becoming a Life Master. In December 2015, Barbara became an active member of the Clemson Downs community, in Clemson, SC enjoying bridge, computer work, knitting and social activities with friends.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In the Fripp Island Community Chapel, Fripp Island, South Carolina. A reception will be held at the Community Center immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Fripp For A Cure, c/o Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation, PO Box 2233, Beaufort, SC 29901. Please note "in memoriam for Barbara Fuerst". Donations benefit the Keyserling Cancer Center where Barbara & Fred both received cancer treatments by loving & caring medical professionals.
