Obituary

Barbara Ann Hamlett King, 86, of Easley, SC, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026. She was the only child of the late Henry Allen and Edna Olga Hamlett, and the wife of Jerry Thomas King.

Some people leave behind accomplishments, titles, and possessions. Barbara leaves behind something far greater: a lifetime of love, faith, laughter, and memories that will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Barbara was born in Greenville, South Carolina, and graduated from Parker High School in 1957, where she proudly served as head majorette. It was there that she met the love of her life, Jerry. What began as a high school romance turned into a beautiful love story that lasted 68 years. In fact, Jerry likes to laugh that his first job's sole purpose was to earn money to buy her candy bars and make her happy. Through every season of life, every joy and every challenge, they stood side by side.

As a military wife, Barbara knew what it meant to love faithfully. She waited for Jerry during his Air Force training, and while he served in Korea, and together they built a life filled with adventure, traveling the world and making memories wherever they went.

To know Barbara was to know a woman who loved fiercely. Family was everything to her. There wasn't a thing she wouldn't do for the people she loved. She never missed a concert, recital, ballgame, band competition, or special event involving her grandchildren. She was their biggest fan, their loudest cheerleader, and one of their safest places.

Known affectionately as "Nana Bob," Barbara had a way of making ordinary moments special. She loved singing "You Are My Sunshine," could make a pan of cornbread that no one could ever quite duplicate, and believed there was always room for one more shopping trip and one more new outfit. She loved dressing her girls and creating traditions, especially their annual beach trips to Garden City.

Barbara's faith was the foundation of her life. She was a devoted member of Brushy Creek and found great joy in being part of the Joy Sunday School Group and the senior adult ministry, and working with youth on mission trips at Geer Memorial. She loved others generously and lived her faith through kindness, service, and compassion.

She was also a proud Clemson fan and treasured gathering with family to cheer on the Tigers. Some of her happiest moments were simply being surrounded by the people she loved most.

Barbara's life was not measured in years, but in the countless lives she touched, the meals she cooked, the songs she sang, the hugs she gave, and the unwavering love she poured into her family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jerry Thomas King; her children, Renee King and Tammy Trotter (Greg); her grandchildren, Zack Trotter (Katie), Bethany Holt (Anna), Mary Caitlin Trotter, Micah Trotter; her great-grandchildren, Jedidiah Trotter, Ruth Trotter, John Holt, and August Holt, as well as her cousin who was much like a sister to her, JoAnn Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Allen and Edna Olga Hamlett.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on June 25, 2026, at Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Easley, SC. Entombment will follow the service at the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, the 24th, at the funeral home.

Though our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the gift of having known and loved her. We will miss her laughter, her strength, her feisty spirit, and the way she made everyone feel like family.
