Bobbie E. Metzger

Barbara Erwin Metzger (Miss Bobbie) passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025 at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community in West Columbia, SC. She was born on August 19, 1929, in Darlington, SC to the late Arthur and Zubie (Crowder) Erwin.
After graduating high school in Darlington she attended Furman University, earning a BA degree in Psychology in 1950. In October of 1950 she married Carl E Metzger and spent the next six plus decades with her “partner for life”. In the mid fifties they moved to Easley, SC where they joined the Easley First Baptist Church. In 1963 she started teaching at the church Kindergarten. Soon afterwards she became Director and served for almost 30 years. Even in retirement she served the church serving on various committees and teaching Sunday school.
Bobbie was a member of the local Garden Club and she and Carl, along with their son Mike, developed countless friendships and enjoyed traveling throughout the country and to Europe. In 1990 she became a grandmother which excited her to no end. She spent her later years enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and knitting. She celebrated her 96th birthday with her entire family just a week before her passing.
She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Zubie (Crowder) Erwin, a brother Pat Erwin and her husband Carl Metzger. She is survived by a sister Rose Boston, her son Mike (Janice) of Columbia, SC, grandchildren Jordan Metzger of Marietta, GA, Carlie (Turner) Allman of Lexington, SC and great-grandchildren Hembree and Hailee Allman.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 on Thursday (8/28/25) in the Narthex of Easley First Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to First Baptist Church Legacy Fund, 300 E. 1st Avenue, Easley, SC 29640.
