Barbara Gillespie Putnam, 81, of 406 South Fifth Street, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Atlanta, a daughter of the late John C. and Kate Cothran Gillespie, Mrs. Putnam was formerly the Western Union Operator at Rogers Drug Store and a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church where she was the former organist, pianist and floral arranger and a member of the Gerrge Pizzi Sunday School Class.
Surviving are husband of sixty-three years, Randel Putnam of the home; a son, Jim Putnam (Beverly) of Kings Mountain, NC; and a grandson, Clay Putnam (Natalie) of Greer. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Putnam was predeceased by two brothers, Johnny and R.L. Gillespie, and by four sisters, Frances McAlister, Gladys Barnard, Geneva Hudson, and Lois Moss.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Mrs. Putnam's caregivers, Wanda Evatt, Inez Hendrix and Barbara Bobo.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Wednesday at Geer Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Phil McAlister and Rev. Billy Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown and will be placed in the church at 1:30 pm Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 pm, prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Geer Memorial Baptist Church, 911 South Fifth Street, Easley, SC 29640.
