Beatrice “Bea” Scott Smith, 96, of Greenville, wife of the late Loyd R. Smith, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at her home.
Born on October 30th, 1926 in Lowell, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Truman J. and Flora Hall Scott. She graduated from Parker High School, carrying with her the lessons of education and perseverance that became hallmarks of her character. Bea's vivacious personality was undeniable — a loving mother and grandmother who never met a stranger. Her outgoing nature drew people toward her warmth and genuine care for others. Her faith was the bedrock of her life, an unwavering compass guiding her through both joyous moments and challenging times. Throughout her life, Bea harbored a deep passion for preserving memories and stories. She channeled this passion into creating countless scrapbooks documenting textiles, World War II, and significant world events. The meticulous attention she poured into each page served as a testament to the beauty of remembrance. Alongside David and Linda O'Neal, Bea embarked on the noble endeavor of creating a Bible Study that would inspire spiritual growth among fellow believers. Her dedication to nurturing faith within the community mirrored her own profound connection to God. Music held a special place in Bea's heart, especially gospel music which resonated deeply with her soul. For her entire life, she graced the halls of Tremont Church of God with her presence, and as an active member for twenty-six years. She was very involved in the Funeral Meal Committee and the Golden Gems.
Bea is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Taylor (Edwin); a granddaughter, Stephanie Taylor Matthews (Mark); two great-grandchildren, Emma G. Bishop, and Aaron A. Bishop; along with several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members whom she loved so much.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by five siblings, Edna Scott Campbell, Elmer Scott, Jeanette Scott McAlister (Ken), Betty Scott Rich (Don), and Shirley Scott Carter; a granddaughter, Trista Janeen Taylor; and a brother-in-law, Roy Smith (Doris).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM at Tremont Church of God with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:30 AM in the Church Sanctuary. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tremont Church of God Shut-In Ministry, 2854 New Easley Highway, Greenville, SC 29611.
The family would like to give special thanks to Bea’s Caregivers and to Agape Hospice for their loving care during the last days of her life.
