Dr. Benson Lewis Bagwell, DMD, of Clemson, SC died Tuesday, October 1, 2013.
Born in Easley, SC, he was a son of the late Earl Jackson and Mary Bernice Roper Bagwell. Dr. Bagwell grew up in Easley where he attended Eastside Grammar School and graduated from Easley High School. He was a 1966 graduate of Clemson University where he was a member of the Numeral Society. Upon graduation he entered the US Army and served as an Executive Officer for a helicopter rescue unit in Viet Nam. He taught high school for two years before entering and graduating from the MUSC Dental School in 1974. He moved to Clemson where he practiced dentistry for 39 years. He was very involved in the Clemson community and provided dental service not only through his regular practice but provided dental service to both needy children and adults in the Pickens County area.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Bagwell of the home; a son, Benson Elliott Bagwell of Rapid City, SD; daughter, Eliza Kirk Bagwell of Clemson; brother, Curtis Elliott Bagwell of Simpsonville, SC; and uncles James Jeter and Houston Roper both of Powdersville, SC.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Clemson with Reverend John Neiman officiating.
A private internment will be held prior to the service.
