Bernice Carol Evatt Nalley, 87, wife of the late Daniel Luther Nalley, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025. Born in Easley, SC, to the late James Henry Evatt, Sr. and the late Frances McQueen Evatt. She attended Easley First Wesleyan Church in her early life and then attended Potters Clay Fellowship.
Bernice dedicated her life to the service of others, spending an incredible 40 years as a Nurse’s Assistant and Heart Monitor Technician before retiring from Baptist Easley Hospital. There, she earned the affectionate nickname "Be Nice Nalley," a testament to her feisty and kind-hearted nature. This title even found its way onto her name badge, reminding everyone of her can do attitude and how she treated her patients and colleagues. You never had to wonder what she was thinking. Many also called her “BEN”, and the “Ever-Ready Bunny” because she could run circles around everyone!
Outside of her professional commitments, Bernice enjoyed listening to southern gospel music, an interest that reflected her deep faith and appreciation for uplifting melodies. She enjoyed canning from their garden that fed her family. She loved flowers, birds and butterflies and enjoyed her yellow bell bush and the dogwood trees in her yard each spring.
Bernice was not only a devoted caregiver, taking care of her patients at work and numerous family members; she was also a great cook who delighted in preparing mouthwatering baked coconut pies and her famous macaroni and cheese that became a hallmark of her loving home. Her family fondly remembers gathering around the table, sharing laughter and stories, with each bite filled with love. The warmth of her kitchen was contrasted beautifully by her take-charge personality; she was the embodiment of resilience, always ready to step forward and help anyone in need without expecting a thing in return. She gave unselfishly to strangers, friends and family.
Her grandchildren knew her as "Gma" and "Grandma," titles that encapsulated the boundless adoration she had for them and they for her. They were the light in her life, and she reveled in watching them grow and thrive. Bernice was faithful and a true servant leader. With a matter-of-fact approach and a witty sense of humor, Bernice was small but mighty. She lived through many trials and tribulations, but would often say, “God didn’t promise us a bed of roses.” She lived by the motto that the sun will come up tomorrow and things will look different.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by daughter, Valinda Nalley Roberts, brother, James H. Evatt, Jr. and brother-in-law, Marvin Masters.
Bernice is survived by son, Daniel L. Nalley, Jr. (Pam) of Easley; daughter, Vickie N. McDaniel (Len Moss) of Burlington, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Nalley (Angelina) of Easley; and Andrew Roberts (Hailey) of Decatur, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Luke and Hudson Nalley; sister, Brenda Bowers of Easley; sister-in-law, Cyndi Evatt of Easley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. The funeral service to honor Bernice’s memory will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel. Burial will be held in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers over the past 11 years. Debbie Dover, Debby English, Darlene Bridges, Pat Holiday, Linda Garrison, Melissa Brandenburger, and Mckensie Perry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Potters Clay Fellowship, PO Box 2888, Easley, South Carolina 29641.
Bernice's legacy is one of unwavering compassion, a commitment to service, and the joy she found in nurturing others. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we celebrate her life, we find comfort in the cherished memories she leaves behind and the countless lives she touched along her extraordinary journey.
