Bertram C. Tompkins, Clemson
Bertram Carlton Tompkins, 86, husband of Marguerite Heine Tompkins and son of the late Claude and Ethel Tompkins, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital. He was a native of New York.
Bert attended Albany Business College and the Institute of Finance in New York City. He was a Night Fighter Pilot in the Pacific Theater during World War II, a Master Mason of Mountain Lodge Chapter 529 of Windham, New York and a member of Ashland United Methodist Church. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Air Medals.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a brother Robert More Tompkins (Joyce) of Ashland, NY; three sons, Craig Carlton Tompkins (Nancy) of Central, SC, Marc Steven Tompkins (Teresa) of Minden, NV, Bertram Carl Tompkins (Lisa) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Stephen Tompkins (Kathryn), Jonathan Tompkins, Brooke Tompkins, Derek Tompkins, Adam Tompkins, Sarah Tompkins, Matthew Tompkins, Kelly Tompkins, Eric Tompkins and 3 great-granddaughters, Bailey Tompkins, Leah Tompkins and Crosby Tompkins.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at 2pm at Old Stone Church Cemetery, Clemson. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home, 1018 Keystone Lane, Clemson.
The family requests that memorials in Bert's memory be made to Clemson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 590, Clemson, SC 29633-0590.
