Bethel Ellen Howard Kelley, of Pickens County, widow of Namon Kelley, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at her home.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Mattie Boren Howard.

Mrs. Kelley attended Asheville Teachers College. She was a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University and taught school in the Pickens area for 35 years. For most of her life, she was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and worked in many areas of the church.

Surviving are her daughters, Jayne Ellicott (Jim) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Carolyn Hughes (Don) of Powdersville and Beth Kohout (Bill) of Easley; grandchildren, Courtney Ellicott Duncan, Erin Kohout Black, Jessica Kohout, Whitney Kohout Stone and Adam Hughes; great grandchildren, Caiden and Siena Black and Knox and Lively Duncan.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Matt Hughes; and brothers and sisters, Lois Gravely, Claude Howard, Coy Howard, Mellie Garrett, Cecil Howard and Dick Howard.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Sherri Byers, for the love and compassion that she gave to Mrs. Kelley.

Memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Mountain View Baptist Church, with the Reverend Bob Dickard officiating. A private burial will be held. The grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends following the service in the social hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain View Baptist Church, 336 Mountain View Church Road, Six Mile, SC 29682 or to the charity of one's choice.
