Betty Jean Wimpey Owens Halbert Black, 71, of 507 West Fifth Avenue, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of Estelle Aiken Wimpey of Easley and the late Lee Wimpey, Mrs. Black retired from Comfort Inn of Easley after twenty-five years of service and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are two sons, David Owens of Slab Town and Timothy Owens of Liberty; three daughters, Linda Baylis of Liberty, Christine Harris of Pickens and Karen Graham of Slab Town; five sisters, Mary Ellen Thomas, Margaret Morris, Joyce McClain, Martha Ann Chappell and Etta Hastings; seventeen grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren. In addition to her father, Mrs. Black as predeceased by her first husband, Welton F. Owens, her second husband, Leroy Calvin Halbert, by her third husband, Leroy "Sam" Black, by a daughter, Marie Fields, and by two sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
