Betty Cooper Butler

August 2, 1940 — April 29, 2026

Betty Cooper Butler, 85, beloved wife of the late William David Butler passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Born on August 2, 1940, in Greenville, SC to the late Atrel W. Cooper and the late Inez Hinton Cooper McKinney. Betty was a cherished and very active member of Victory Chapel Baptist.

A cherished mother and grandmother, Betty’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the simple joys that filled her days.

Throughout her career, Betty served with unwavering commitment, first retiring from Kemet Electronics and then continuing her work with the Greenville County School System. Her professional life reflected the same care and diligence that marked her personal relationships, as she always put the needs of others before her own.

Betty was known affectionately as "Granny" by her grandchildren—a title she wore with pride and affection. Those who were fortunate enough to be part of her family circle treasure memories of her Sunday meals, a weekly tradition filled with warmth, laughter, and delicious food that brought everyone together. These gatherings were more than just meals; they were a reflection of her generous spirit and her deep love for nurturing her family.

Her joys extended beyond her home. Betty delighted in trips to the beach, where she found peace and connection with nature. She was also a devoted fan of music, frequently attending singings at the Carolina Opry and special events in Easley to support local artists. Her favorite artist was the legendary Conway Twitty, whose music seemed to mirror her own heartfelt and enduring spirit.

Among Betty’s proudest accomplishments was her lifelong commitment to caring for others. Her kindness touched everyone she met, and she leaves behind a legacy of compassion that continues to inspire.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she is predeceased by sisters, Ann Eskridge and Margaret Harrington and brother, William "Bill" Atrel Cooper, Jr.

She is survived by Daughter, Becky Toney (Chris); son, William "David" Butler, Jr. (Janine); grandchildren, McKenzie Butler Williams (Justin), Grayson Toney; step-granddaughter, Amanda Green (Ryan); step-great-grandchild, RJ Green and her lifelong best friend, Anne Dickson, who later became her sister-in-law.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the love and care shown to Betty at Enlighten Home Care and McCall Hospice, and especially for the kindness that Kandis provided at Bon Secours Eastside ICU.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:15 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Victory Chapel Baptist Church with her funeral service to follow at 1:30 PM. Entombment will be held in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests those who want to make contributions to be made to Victory Chapel Baptist Church, Attn: The Youth Group at P.O. Box 251, Conestee, SC 29636 or online at www.victorychapelbaptist.com.
