Mrs. Betty Fortner Griffin, 93, wife of the late Joel Newton Griffin, Sr., went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late James Alonzo Fortner and the late Lois Laverne Burns Fortner, Mrs. Griffin was a graduate of Greenville High School and Draughon's Business College. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church.

Betty loved camping, traveling, and playing cards with the card girls, but her greatest love was for her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her. 

Surviving are a son, Mark Kerry Griffin (Michelle) of Greenville; her daughter, Beverly Ann Griffin of Greer; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Griffin of Greenwood; her special-friends, Jane Hood and Jean Seeger; her grandchildren, Julie Cassell (Stacey), Alice Yatsenyuk, Joel "Trey" Griffin (Elizabeth), Luke Abrams (Sheena), Andrea Crain (Matt), Alix Griffin and Claire Griffin; and her great-grandchildren, Griffin Cassell, Sophia Yatsenyuk, Savannah Griffin, Penelope Griffin, Reese Abrams, Larson Abrams, Audrey Crain and Brooke Crain. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Griffin was predeceased by a son, Joel Newton Griffin, Jr.; and three sisters, Evelyn Fortner Martin, Iris Fortner Massey and Margaret Fortner Long.

A Celebration of Life will be hosted by the family at a later date.
