Betty Lou Janzen, 98, widow of Jack Janzen, died peacefully Friday, May 1, 2020 at Clemson Downs Nursing Center. Born in Waukon, Iowa, she was the daughter of Sidney and Josephine Mathisen. Betty received her B.S. in Food and Nutrition and worked as a Dietician/Dietary Consultant.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very involved in serving her community - local, state and national. She was active in Toastmasters and the SC Association of Parliamentarians and was a dedicated member of the Clemson Presbyterian Church. She served on Clemson City Council. She was a great cook and loved to try new recipes. She loved nature, especially her wildflower garden and birds. She was a world traveler - her favorite place she visited was New Zealand. She loved music - played the piano, accordion and guitar. A person who sought to teach and inspire others, she fulfilled life and she will be missed.
Betty is survived by a son, Robert Janzen and wife, Kathy, of Salt Lake City, UT; 2 daughters, Mona Turner of Simpsonville, and Sherry Henry and husband, John, of Orefield, PA; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, and her brother, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Jack, in July, 2008. A decision about a memorial service will be made at a later date.
