Betty Medlin Tinsley Smith, 85, of Easley, South Carolina, wife of L.C. Smith Jr. passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Born in Pickens, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Obie and Essie Turner Medlin. She graduated from Pickens High School and was a regular member at St. Matthias Lutheran Church in Easley. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse who applied her skills to family as well as professional caregiving.
She had a ready sense of humor and love for jokes and puzzles. Reading was one of Betty’s greatest passions, and she could often be found with a book in hand. She read cookbooks as if they were novels, savoring each recipe and imagining the delicious possibilities. Her love for cooking was evident in the delicious meals she prepared, making special dishes for holidays and family gatherings. As a dedicated homemaker, Betty sewed, crafted, cooked and decorated.
She celebrated holidays with great enthusiasm. and actively participated in bridge clubs and mahjong clubs year-round
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons, David R. Tinsley (Shelia) and Joseph “Jody” L. Tinsley (April Childress); five grandchildren: Joshua Glenn Tinsley (Sarah), Nancy Elizabeth Lingle (William), Nicholas Lee Smith (Daphne), Robert Joseph Smith (Alicia), and Rebekah Tiffany Smith, as well as eight great-grandchildren and a daughter in law, Beth Smith.
She was predeceased by her first husband and father of her sons, C Boyce Tinsley; a son, Jerry Phillip Tinsley, as well as three stepsons, Kelly, Kevin and Kerri Smith and her three brothers Theodore, Glenn and Garland Medlin.
The funeral service will be held at St. Matthias Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 3:00 PM. A visitation will follow the service.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to St. Matthias Lutheran Church.
