BG (Ret.) Hoyt E. ThompsonEasley, SC
Brigadier General (Ret.) Hoyt Edward Thompson, 78, of Three and Twenty Road and husband of Peggy Watson Thompson, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late W.C. “Bill” Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Owens Thompson.
BG (Ret.) Thompson retired from the SC Army National Guard after 40 years of exemplary service that gained him several awards, including induction to the Palmetto Military Hall of Fame and receiving the SC Order of The Palmetto, the states highest honor, from Governor David Beasley. He was formerly employed with Platt-Saco Lowell, and retired as a Field Representative from Woodman of the World Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he was a member of the Dewitt Boggs Sunday School Class and was a former deacon. He loved his Lord, his family and church family and “was a politician who never held an office”.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his sons, Greg E. Thompson (Debbie) and Scott Thompson (Cathy) all of Easley; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Randall Thompson of Easley; and two sisters, Helen Orr and Gail Counts both of Easley.
A service to celebrate BG (Ret.) Thompson's life will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the SCANG.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 101 Pisgah Road, Easley, SC 29642.
The family will be at the home.
