Bill Thomas

William Lee "Bill" Thomas, 75, of 305 Kings Way, died Monday, June 22, 2009 at his home.
Born in Layton, PA, he was a son of the late William Franklin and Elizabeth Strawn Thomas. He attended Clemson University and was a member of the 1956 Orange Bowl Team and a captain and member of the 1958 Sugar Bowl Team. He was drafted by the LA Rams and later was drafted by the Boston Patriots but returned to Clemson following training camp. He was a standout who won the Jacob's Blocking Trophy and the Hamilton Award and in 1958 was appointed All ACC first string center. He was the former vice-president of First National Bank of SC for 20 years and was a member of Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Hudock Thomas of the home; two sons, William Lee Thomas, Jr. of Columbia, Todd Franklin Thomas of Pendleton; a brother, Blair M. Thomas of Youngstown, OH; Betty T. Jolley of Belle Vernon, PA; a grandson, William Todd "Will" Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 PM until 8 PM at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons. Private burial will be in Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
