Billie M. Davies

After a very brief illness, Billie McMachan Davies, 96, of 109 Vineyard Road and widow of Arvon L. Davies, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca. She will be terribly missed by all those whose life she touched, especially the life of her daughter.
Born in Malone, NY, and raised by her grandparents, Philip and Kitty McMachan, she was the only child and daughter of the late Calvert Colestine and Lili Laurier McMachan, she was a homemaker and a Presbyterian.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1937. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, gourmet cooking, cultural events, artistic pursuits, traveled extensively and lived in many places, including England. She was involved in many social/civic organizations throughout her lifetime including Fort Hill Garden Club in Clemson.
Surviving are three sons, Stephen R. Davies (Judy) of Franklin, TN, Philip L. Davies and special friend Candy Owens, and Peter L. Davies (Janis) both of Seneca; one daughter, Cindy E. Davies of the home, and also former daughter-in-law, Sherry West Davies of Queensbury, NY. Seven grandchildren, Stephanie Davies Dickinson (Matt), Scott Daniel Davies (Kelly), Janie Davies Fitzgerald (Patrick), Daniel L. Davies (Dena), Rachel Davies Hohman (Thomas), Tyler L. Davies and Jeremy L. Davies. Nine great-grandchildren, Kathryn Sue Davies, Emma Bay Dickinson, Seth D. Davies, Samanatha Davies, Shaelyn Fitzgerald, Torin L. Davies, Taylor Dena Davies, Nathan Hohman and Maxwell L. Hohman. Also surviving are nephews, Douglas Houghton and family, Remsen, NY; Richard and Judy Hynes and family, Dedham, MA; and niece Pamela Pistocco and daughter Melissa, Blackstone, MA.
Also surviving are dear friends George and Margaret Ann Rodgers, Karen Lee, Carolyn Simpson and our dear neighbors of Vineyard Road.
A private family celebration will be held at a later date. Flowers may be delivered to the home or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
The family would like to thank the staff on 2nd and 4th floors at Oconee Memorial Medical Center and staff of the Cottingham Hospice House, Seneca, SC, for all their assistance at this difficult time.
