Billy Loyd Griffin, 94, of 100 Pershing Avenue, Dominion Senior Living, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 1, 2024, at his residence in Clemson, South Carolina.

Born on June 8, 1930, in Six Mile, South Carolina, Billy was the son of the late L.S. "Sarge" and Irene Bolding Griffin. Billy was raised in Central, where he demonstrated a commitment to education and service. Billy graduated from Central High School before pursuing higher education at Clemson College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1952.

In the spirit of duty and patriotism, Billy entered active duty in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, serving honorably and spending time stationed in Korea during the Korean War. After his military service, he embarked on a long, distinguished career with Florida Power Corporation in St. Petersburg, FL. Starting as a distribution engineer, Billy worked diligently for 35 years, ultimately retiring as an executive—a testament to his successful and impactful career.

Throughout his life, Billy was deeply involved in the communities he called home. His dedication to service was evident through his involvement in various activities and organizations. After retirement, he returned to the upstate area, where he resided for many years. A passionate golfer, an avid fisherman, and an exceptional woodturner, Billy shared his love of the craft by making numerous trips to Haiti, where he taught local artisans to create and sell their work for a brighter future. Billy was an active member of the Clemson Rotary Club, contributed his efforts to Helping Hands of Clemson, and was a devout member of Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church.

Billy is survived by his son, Tim Griffin and wife Wendy of Simpsonville, South Carolina; daughter, Lynn Griffin of Liberty, South Carolina; grandchildren Justin Griffin and Molly Griffin Kerr and husband Will; great grandson, Ellison (Eli) Kerr.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lolita Ellison Griffin; his parents, L.S. "Sarge" and Irene Bolding Griffin; his brothers, Carl Griffin, and Dr. Charles Griffin; and his sister, Helen Griffin Dobson.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church on November 8th at 2:00 PM where Rev. Gregg Martin will officiate. A committal service with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family invites friends and loved ones to gather in the Fellowship Hall of Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church after the service to share memories and celebrate Billy's life.
