Billy M. Southerland

Billy Mural Southerland, 81, formerly of 303 Old Liberty Road and more recently The Magnolias, died Friday, November 17, 2006, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Easley, Mr. Southerland was the son of the late Lawrence Monroe and Kitty Guffie Sutherland. He graduated from Easley High School in 1947. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served from 1942 to 1946. He was a part of the Elite 3rd Marine Division that invaded Bouganville in the South Pacific in November 1943, and he was part of the occupational forces that were sent into Nagasaki, Japan in December 1945. Mr. Southerland was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are three brothers, J. Lowell Southerland and Harold E. Southerland both of Easley and Lawrence M. Southerland, Jr. of Anderson; and one sister, Catherine S. (Willene) Garrison of Anderson. Mr. Southerland was predeceased by two brothers, Truman and Jack Southerland; and three sisters, Lillie Oates, Hazel Robinson and Mildred McCollum.
Funeral services will be 3:30 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown with Reverend Dr. Alton Nix officiating. Burial will follow in Oates Cemetery.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown Easley where the family will receive friends 6:00-7:30 P.M. Saturday.
