William Robert Craig

William Robert (Bob) Craig, 77, of 427 Bethlehem Ridge Road, husband of Kay McFarlin Craig, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at Hospice House of the Upstate.
Born October 8, 1931, in Pickens, Mr. Craig was a son of the late James Bannister and Janie Stewart Craig. He graduated from Pickens High School and Clemson University with a Masters Degree in Education. After serving for two years in the U.S. Army, he returned to Pickens teaching at Pickens High School for several years before being chosen to serve as the elected Superintendent of Education of Pickens County. He then served as Director of Business and Properties with a total of thirty-five years of service with the School District of Pickens County. He was then selected to be manager of the Pickens Country Club.
Mr. Craig also served the town of Pickens as mayor, town councilman and volunteer fireman. He was a member of Easley Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are one son, Andrew William Craig, and his wife, Lisa Cox Craig, their daughters, Grace Victoria Craig, Mary Johnson Craig, and Katherine McFarlin Craig; one daughter, Suzanne Craig Fort, and her husband, Jefferson DuBose Fort, their daughter, Jacquelyn DuBose Fort, their son, William Craig Fort, all of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Mr. Craig was predeceased by four sisters, Nancy Laura Wallis (Jim), Josie Carson (Lloyd), Ethel Eugenia McDaniel (Henry Earle), Rachel Lucille Durham (Carl), and a brother, James Telford Craig (Mary Alice Stewart).
The committal service will be 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Craig Family Cemetery near Old Pickens Presbyterian Church.
The memorial service will be 11:30 A.M. Monday at Easley Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor.
