Bob L. Edgar
Cumming, GA
Bob L. Edgar, 89, husband of Margaret Stewart Edgar, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020.
Born in Seneca, he was a son of the late Reverend William Lewis and Sara McPherson Edgar.
Bob loved South Carolina, loving all areas in his state, from the Piedmont area where he was raised, to the low country where he spent 45 yrs. of his life, 28 of which were at the SC coast. He was a graduate of Greenville High School, and received a Business Arts degree with honors from Furman University, while married with one child, working third shift in a mill while attending Furman.
After Furman, Bob's first employment was at Saco Lowell in Easley, in the Personnel Department, now known as Human Resources. From there he was Personnel Director at Pratt Reed in Central, followed by P.D. at Butte Knit, Spartanburg, then to Aerovox, in Myrtle Beach, SC as P.D. He then accepted Human Resources Director of Becton-Dickson (BD) Medical Supplies in Sumter, SC for 10 yrs. National Water Lift in Beaufort, SC sought him as their HR Director and the family happily moved to "beautiful Beaufort by the bay", and loved living at the coastal area, enjoying the moderate weather, year round golf, and over 6 months of beach access a year. After 10 yrs. with NWL, Bob took the HR Director position with Goer Manufacturing in Charleston, where he worked 12 yrs. before retiring at 67.
Bob was active in various civic and professional associations in the communities in which he lived, to include the Sumter Chamber of Commerce, the Personnel Association of Sumter, Salvation Advisory Board, the United Way, and other associations and civic groups.
Bob was an avid golfer from his mid-20's when he first played a round and got bitten by the golf bug, playing an average of 3 rounds a week for the rest of his life until he could no longer play due to hip and knee pain when he was about 72. He loved University of SC football, and Furman football, and all professional football, as well as golf matches that were televised, regardless of the time of day or night.
Bob was raised in the Easley Church of God, and when he and Margaret retired to Easley, he rejoined his beloved ECOG and became an active member until moving to Cumming, GA, to be near his daughter's family.
Bob was a man of deep faith, loving his Lord, enjoying daily prayer and Bible study. He loved the Lord, Margaret, Summer and Bobby and their growing families, his brothers and families, plus all the Stewart family from Margaret's side. He cherished family gatherings with reminiscing, much laughter, and good foods. Bob loved a good joke or story, and would tell it once, then again, and even a third time to hear all laugh again! So funny! Bob will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 69 years, are his children, Summer Averitt (Shepard) of Cumming, GA, and Bob L. Edgar, Jr. (Sandra) of Mt. Pleasant; 6 grandchildren, Holly How, Christopher Averitt, Katye Rosentel, Tyler Averitt, Jacob Kline (Jenny), and Frank Kline (Eli); 11 great grandchildren, Summer, Philip, Paige, Claire, Laine, Kirsten, Pender, Hadley, Scarlett, Rhodes, and Henry; and two brothers, McPherson "Mack" Edgar and Dennis Edgar.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Glenn Edgar and Larry Edgar.
