Calhoun Newton Hinton, 95, formerly of 520 Hampton Avenue, and a recent resident of Laurel Hill Living Center, died Monday, November 26, 2007.

Mr. Hinton was a son of the late Olar Thompson Hinton Sr. and the late Lois Newton Hinton. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. As a former Postmaster and Mayor, Mr. Hinton led a life of service to his church, his community, and his family. He was a graduate of Clemson University and a Captain in the US Army during World War II. He retired as Lt. Col. from the US Army Reserves.

Mr. Hinton's wife, Jeannie, and his son, Rodger, died in 2006.

Surviving are a brother, Joel Newton Hinton, of Greenville; and a sister, Martha Hinton Dunn, of Pickens. Mr. Hinton was also predeceased by a sister, Corrinne Isley, and two brothers, Trescott Hinton and Olar Hinton, Jr. (Red).

Graveside funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
