Carey L. Beard
Easley, SC
Carey Lynn Beard, of Easley, South Carolina, passed away on August 15, 2026, at the age of 76.
Born on July 13, 1950, in Pickens, South Carolina, Carey led a life rooted in service, faith, and dedication to family.
A graduate of Pickens High School, Carey attended Spartanburg Methodist College and Georgia Southern University, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the University of South Carolina. His professional career began in Charleston, SC, working for Hershey Foods Corporation. He later returned to the Upstate, and his career spanned decades in textile management and industrial engineering, with roles at Dan River Mills, Woodside Mill, and Delta Mill Marketing. He later transitioned into facilities services with IH/Newbold Services. Throughout his career, Carey was respected for his diligence and professionalism. Carey proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era, served in the United States Naval Reserves, and was attached to the Defense Nuclear Agency in Washington, D.C., where he was awarded the Joint Services Commendation Medal for exemplary service.
His lifelong commitment to service began early through the Boy Scouts of America. An Eagle Scout and recipient of the God and Country Award, Carey was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. He cherished formative experiences at Camp Old Indian and Philmont Scout Ranch.
Faith remained central throughout his life. He served as a deacon and usher at his church, First Baptist Easley, and participated in the McCall/Morehead Growth Group, where he found fellowship and spiritual growth among friends.
At home, Carey enjoyed working in the yard and cheering on South Carolina football-simple pleasures that reflected his love for nature and loyalty to his alma mater. He enjoyed growing zinnias and Tomatoes, two of Lucy’s favorites that he shared with friends and family.
He was the beloved son of Claude Edwin Beard and Laura Naomi Alexander Beard. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy Hurt Beard; sons, Bailey Judson Beard and Carey Hall Beard (Koehler); granddaughters, Emily Augusta Beard and Tilly Hall Beard; twin brother David Lee Beard (Ginnie) Greenville SC; sister Martha Katherine Shayda (Paul) Fairfax VA; special cousin Mark Long (Debbie) Columbia SC, brother-in-law Al Hurt (Sandi) Cincinnati OH; William Bailey Hurt (Beth) Raleigh NC and extended nieces and nephews.
