Carl McBee Bates, Jr., 90, of 222 Stonehedge Court and husband of Elizabeth Mimms Bates, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the Richard M. Campbell Nursing Home in Anderson.

Born in Greenville, a son of the late Carl M. Sr. and Donnie Barton Bates, he was a retired Plant Engineer with Dan River, Inc. He was an Army and Navy veteran of WWII, a member of Brandon Lodge #279 AFM, and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home, are; two sons, Ronald Bates of Easley and David Bates of Zebulon, NC; two daughters, Donnie Courtemanche of Easley and Elaine Wade of Lebanon, TN; one sister, Dorothy Lankford of Greenville; 14 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son; Richard Bates; a daughter, Sherian Welch; and a sister, Amalee Bruce.

Cryptside services with masonic rites will be 2 PM, Saturday in the Mausoleum at Graceland East, Greenville with Rev. Dr. David Gallamore officiating.

The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road and will be taken to the mausoleum at 1:00 PM, Saturday.

The family is at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, SC 29642.
