Carl Rodgers Bridges, 97, of Powdersville, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at his home.
Born and raised in Powdersville, South Carolina, a son of the late J.O. and Kate Bridges, Carl was married to Melba McMath Bridges until her death in 1994. He later was married to Hazel Austin Bridges until her death in 2020. He attended Welcome High School, where he graduated as part of the Class of 1943. After graduating, Carl enlisted in the US Navy to serve his country. Upon his completion of service, he embarked on a successful career as the owner of three Gulf Gas Stations. He was a lifelong member of Siloam Baptist Church and played an active role in the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he generously gave his time and resources to help others in any way he could, particularly within his church community.
In addition to his devotion to the church, Carl had a deep love for his family and friends. He cherished the time spent together, whether it was hosting get-togethers or organizing a fish fry. Carl also had a passion for fellowship with friends through fishing, hunting, golfing, playing dominos, or simply having coffee at the local Service Station. Throughout his life, Carl Rodgers Bridges embodied compassion and generosity. He leaves behind a legacy of selflessness that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Carl is survived by his daughter-in-love, Lora Harrison Bridges; three grandchildren, Kati Linn (John), Leah Belcher (Clint), and Jordan Bridges (Brooke); and eight great-grandchildren, Halli, Ella, Owen, Lydia, Harper, Jacob, Colton, and Joseph.
