In loving memory of Carl David Finley, born to Carl and Clara Finley (both deceased) on March 16, 1971, in Greenville, SC, a beacon of love and kindness, who departed this life on May 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family near and far. David's passing leaves a profound void, yet his legacy of compassion and generosity will endure in the hearts of those he touched.
Born into a world of teaching, David embraced his vocation with passion and dedication and was proud to be a “Johnnie” graduating from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His ability to impart knowledge and inspire countless lives was a testament to his innate wisdom and empathy. Beyond the classroom, David found solace and joy in the melodies of the mandolin, one of his favorite instruments, a testament to his love for music.
David's heart was a sanctuary for his three nurturing mothers: Clara Finley, Donna Wilber, and Cathy Bennett, and two paternal figures: Carl Finley and Ralph Bennett. His four biological sisters enriched his life as he did theirs: Donna Wilber (Dan), Cathy Bennett (Ralph), Suzzanne Tyras, and Patricia Waldron. David also was proud to have four sisters chosen for and by him, which included Mariea Wilson, Anndriea Simon (Marty), Leah Rice (BJ), and Jennifer Abrahams-Wilber, as well as a brother, Josh Griffith. David's extended family, including his dad's sisters, all his niece’s nephews and cousins, will undoubtedly miss his stories and the enchanting music he shared.
David's life was significantly enhanced by his dedicated support system, which included not only his loving family, but a circle of esteemed friends including Mitchell Franseth, Matthew Demattei, John Westover, and Yvette Yarger. Their presence in his life provided emotional sustenance, companionship, and diverse perspectives, contributing to his overall well-being and personal growth.
David held a deep love and pride for his Irish and Scottish heritage. He was especially drawn to the music and the stories of the generations who came before him. St. Patrick’s Day was his favorite holiday, a time when he would joyfully play the songs that meant so much to him. The music stirred his heart, and certain melodies moved him so deeply that they brought tears to his eyes.
He will be missed and we take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on and we thank everyone for being a source of strength for him. May he now find eternal peace as he is embraced by his beloved mother and father.
A Celebration of Life for David will be held on June 13, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lenhardt Christian Fellowship, located at 223 Lenhardt Road, Easley, SC 29640.
Family and friends are warmly invited to join us as we honor and celebrate David's life. Please feel free to share your memories and stories as we gather together in remembrance and gratitude for the time we were blessed to have with him.
