Carol Hughes Chastain, 86, of Central, passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Glen Earl Hughes and Willa Mae Spearman Hughes. Carol was the very definition of unconditional love. Her warm smile and infectious laughter could brighten any room, and her gentle presence brought comfort, joy, and peace to everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She devoted her life to her family, always showing up with love, strength, and an open heart. The memories she created, the kindness she shared, and the loved she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Though Carol will be deeply missed, her legacy of love will never be forgotten.
Carol leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love through her family. She is survived by her granddaughters, Stephanie Hopkins (Kira) and Brittany Chappell; her son-in-law, Dennis Chappell; six great-grandchildren, Tim Swaney (Savannah), McKenzie Swaney (Daniel), Jesi Trotter (Isaiah), Chase Hopkins, Everleigh Greer, and River Hopkins; nine great-great-grandchildren, Kylee Rose, Renly, Oaklyn, Asher, Gracelynn, Sophia, Milo, Walker, and Kayson. She is also survived by her siblings, Barbara Corbin and Duck Hughes.
She is predeceased by her parents; son, Mark Hendricks; daughter, Suzy Chappell; grandsons, Matthew and Marshall Hendricks; and her two brothers, Jimmy Hughes and Ronnie Hughes.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
