Carol Rostron Manos Lawter, 73, wife of Tommy Ray Lawter, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at her home, after a long time with Parkinson's disease.
Born in Charleston, SC, Carol was the daughter of Frances E. Ward Rostron of Clemson and the late Joseph P. Rostron. Growing up in Clemson, Carol was a 1963 graduate of D.W. Daniel High School and a 1967 graduate of Clemson University. After starting out as a science teacher in Tucson, AZ, she moved into a long career in marketing and medical sales, holding jobs in Wilmington DE, Atlanta, Dallas and Shreveport. In Mountain Home, AR, she helped establish a new medical practice, choosing staff and organizing the building setup and design. She then moved to Austin TX, where she held other sales positions. She moved back to South Carolina in 2000, where she met her beloved husband, Tommy.
Carol always loved beauty and color. From home decor to personal appearance, to artistic crafts, she always had a knack for making colorful creations. And she took great delight in sharing them! She came up with her own paper designs, earrings, and more. Her unique, incredibly beautiful scanner art, using live flowers, illustrates her appreciation for the beauty of nature, as well as her eye for balance and harmony.
Inventive, creative, intelligent and wise, Carol also had the ability to easily establish a rapport with most anyone (hence her success in sales). She loved music and was an accomplished musician. She took piano lessons all the way through high school, and continued to play as long as she was physically able. In high school and college, you would find her in the band's percussion section, loving every minute of it! Growing up with her three younger sisters and brother, she seemed to enjoy the role of "big sister". She was always ready to offer guidance and assistance, and she took great delight in her overflow of generosity.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her son, David Manos of West Union, SC; daughter, Merrit Spencer (Billy) of Austin, TX; sisters, Charlotte Christian (Stan) of Quitman, GA, Peggy Rostron of Phoenix, AZ and Pat Rostron of Raleigh, NC; brother, Bill Rostron (Elaine) of West Union, SC; granddaughter, Camille Spencer of Austin, TX; 7 nieces and nephews; and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2018 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Old Stone Church Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 1:50 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.
