Carolyn Virginia GiehlCentral, SC
On the morning of October 19, 2016, Carolyn Virginia Giehl, age 92, formerly of Allentown, NJ, passed away peacefully in her sleep wearing her favorite hat and holding her prayer book.
Born in Hightstown, New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Caroline Matilda Burtis.
She spent a majority of her lifetime in Allentown, New Jersey raising her family of five children on Main Street. She loved family gatherings, many of which were at her cozy Allentown home where families from both sides were greeted with a big smile and open arms. There was always action at the "Giehl House" including teenagers, their cars and their music. Carolyn loved to cook and if you visited the Giehl House regularly for meals you probably remember washing or drying dishes right along with the kids.

She was a lifetime member and lay leader with the United Methodist Church in Allentown, New Jersey. Since moving to Central in 2011 she attended Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church.
She and Ben traveled extensively during their retirement years prior to moving to the Central area. Carolyn had a passion for gardening, and loved watching her grand and great-grandchildren's growth and accomplishments.
She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Bernhard Frederick Giehl; son, Wayne (Kathleen) Giehl of Hightstown, NJ; brother, Robert Burtis; and sisters, Marjorie Sprague, Jenny O'Hagan, Emily O'Hagan, Laura Schwager and Shirley Pittman.
