Carolyn Sobin Schmidt, 89, of Easley, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021.
Born in Newark, NJ, she was the wife of the late Henry "Hank" Paul Schmidt and a daughter of the late John Sobin, Sr. and the late Emma Frances MacDonald Sobin.
Carolyn was a true caregiver and loved to help anyone in need, always searching for opportunities to share her faith in Jesus. She attended Russell Community Church in West Greenville, served in several roles with the Salvation Army, and volunteered with the Kairos Prison Ministry. Her service with Kairos spanned 9 years and included visiting with female inmates at the Leath Correctional Institution where she offered encouragement and supported their walk in faith. Carolyn served as a powerful example of God's love, showing the inmates and her sister volunteers how to be the hands and feet of Jesus. She was a unique and special soul who impacted an amazing number of people.
Carolyn is survived by a granddaughter, Heather Poindexter (Kevin); three great-grandchildren, Maggie, Jasmine, and Abigail; a grandson, Martin Schmidt, Jr.; and loving family friends, Mike and Jennifer McAlister and their children, Addison, Zachary, and Jacob.
In addition to her husband of 39 years, she was preceded in death by a son, Martin Schmidt, Sr.; a daughter, Lisa Slaza; four brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Easley First Baptist Church.
