Carolyn Helton Simmons, 92, of Easley, wife of the late Robert James Simmons, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
Born on July 21, 1932, in Greenville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late William and Essie Mae Mann Helton. Carolyn lived a full life, radiating warmth and affection to her family and friends alike. A dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carolyn's heart knew no bounds when it came to her family. She embraced each moment spent with them, sharing her love and wisdom as they gathered around her. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family; Carolyn's kindness and vivacious personality left an indelible mark on countless lives. Full of life and passion, Carolyn had a multitude of hobbies that enriched her days. She loved to dance, letting the rhythm guide her movements as laughter echoed around her. Gardening was another cherished pursuit, where she found joy planting flowers and nurturing her vibrant ponds filled with goldfish, each ripple in the water a gentle reminder of nature’s beauty. Her love for animals was well-known; she often spoke fondly of the creatures that brought her happiness, even recalling the adventure of feeding an alligator during her time in Florida. While she had a busy life filled with joy, Carolyn embraced the simple pleasures. She took pride in washing dishes by hand, a task she willingly accepted despite having a dishwasher at her disposal. Each moment spent doing something she loved, whether dancing, gardening, or sharing laughter with family, spoke volumes about her personality.
Carolyn is survived by two sons, Dacus Doyle Burnett, and R. J. Simmons; two daughters, Hope Cox (Terry), and Angela Dawn Russell (Todd); a sister, Peggy McCarson (Donald); five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Paul William Burnett, Jr.; a brother, Dennis Doyle Helton; and two sisters, Mildred Cox, and Cathy Bishop.
