Carroll Brown Hart, 90, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Clinton, South Carolina, on July 2, 1935, he was a son of the late Lillian Brown and Jesse Blondel Hart. He was raised in Clinton and Joanna, South Carolina.

Carroll was a 1953 graduate of The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and a 1957 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. In 1958, he married his wife of 66 years, Martha Ann Oeland.

A dedicated patriot, Carroll served in the United States Coast Guard from 1957 to 1961 and continued his service in the Coast Guard Reserves from 1961 to 1966. He went on to become the third-generation owner of Belton Industries, Inc., continuing a proud family legacy.

Carroll was professionally active as a past president of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance and was deeply committed to civic and religious life. He was a communicant of Christ Church Episcopal. He served as Past Vice Chairman of the Board at York Place Episcopal Church Home. Additionally, he served on the Board of Visitors at Kanuga Episcopal Conference Center and on the Board of Trustees of the Peace Center for the Performing Arts.

Carroll found great joy in sailing and was a licensed private pilot.

In addition to his beloved wife, Martha, surviving are a daughter, Martha Hart Kent, her children, Ann and Tom Kent; a son, Carroll Brown Hart, Jr. (Angela) and their three children; Carroll Hart (Holly), Eliza Painter (Trevor), and Lillian Hart; two great-granddaughters, Georgia Hart and Louise Painter; and his sister, Catherine Hart Hall (Ed).

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Blake Hart, PhD.

A private family memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 in Markley Chapel at Christ Church Episcopal.
