Mr. Carroll Douglas Hester, 95, husband of the late Mary Hamlin Hester, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 1, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late Charles “Charlie” and Flossie Gilbert Hester. Carroll was very artistic, creative, analytical and had a great sense of humor. He loved Big Band music which he instilled in his daughters. Carroll grew up playing many sports including football and baseball, which led to him coaching a youth baseball team. He was an avid Clemson football and Atlanta Braves fan. Carroll served in the National Guard from 1948-1955. He met Mary, the love of his life and the two were married in 1952 at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Liberty, SC and remained married for 68 years until her death. He and his late wife, Mary, were the owners and operators of Swimco Pool and Patio, Inc. for 34 years. During this time, he was elected and served as President for the National Swimming Pool Institute for SC and was on the Board of Directors at the YMCA in Easley. After their retirement, the couple enjoyed working in the yard, spending time with family and traveling. He enjoyed watching and reading about the history and wonders of the world, which thrilled him to meticulously plan trips across the country to destinations like Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and Europe. He was a faithful member of Pelham Road Baptist Church in Greenville, SC.
Mr. Hester is survived by his three daughters who were raised in Easley, Ann Walker, Genia Hester, and Donna Gaino (James); grandchildren, Chad Holcombe (Samantha), Ashley Holcombe (Justin), and Brittany Walker; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Emma, Jackson, Kolten, Madeline, Gabe, and a precious little boy on the way.
