Catherine Gay Spurlock, 90, of 201 Willow Street, widow of Hooper Clyde Spurlock died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the CARC Health Care Center.

Born in Hazard, KY, Katie was a daughter of the late Arthur Murrell and Sophie Bargar Gay. She was a retired secretary with the Clemson University Alumni Association and a member of Clemson United Methodist Church since 1955. Katie was very active in the United Methodist Women and was noted for being the official greeter and coffee maker for the early services on Sunday morning and the punch for all the funeral receptions at the church. She also was the unofficial church photographer and served as an usher for many years.

Surviving are a step-son, James Franklin Spurlock of Florida; sister, Nancy Gay Ritchie of Pikeville, KY; several grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Abe M. Gay, William A. Gay and Tom Gay; and sisters, Iva Gay Dill and Ella Gay Speaks.

Funeral services will be 1 PM, Tuesday at Clemson United Methodist Church with Revs. Keith Ray and Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Old Stone Church Cemetery, Clemson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM, Monday at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home and 12 noon to 1 PM, Tuesday prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clemson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 590, Clemson, SC 29633.
