Charlene Skelton Barbary, 58, of 405 North B Street, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Spartanburg, Mrs. Barbary was a daughter of Ellie McCreight Skelton, of Easley and the late Charles Skelton. She graduated from Easley High School in 1970 and the University of Georgia summa cum laude in 1974 with a degree in Interior Design. She had worked as a designer at Harper Brothers and later as a private interior designer. Charlene was a member of the American Society of Interior Design.


A member of Easley Presbyterian Church, Charlene had been active for many years with the Hanging of the Greens for the Christmas decorations at the church. In the community, she was the scorekeeper of the Big League World Series as well as Easley American Legion Baseball.

Surviving in addition to her mother, are her husband, James Edward "Eddie" Barbary, of the home; three sons, Charles McClure King (Mackenzie) of Atlanta, Kendall McCreight King (Sarah Kathryn) of Greenville, and Walker McClain King of Jacksonville, Florida; a step-son, Travis Smith Barbary (Raquel) of Greenville; a step-daughter, Elizabeth Barbary Nix (Marvin) of Central; a sister, Libby O'Neill (Bill) and son, Chris, of Atlanta; and seven grandchildren, Carter King, Chase Barbary, Colton Barbary, Carsyn Leigh Barbary, Cannon Barbary, Garrett Nix, and Graydon Nix.

Memorial services will be 4:00 PM Tuesday at Easley Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Upstate SC Affiliate, P.O. Box 1243, Charlotte, NC 28201, or Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006-3517.


The family is at the home of Travis Barbary, 117 Walnut Creek Way, Greenville, SC 29611.
