Charles Robert Burger

1928 — 2026

Piedmont, South Carolina

Charles Robert Burger, 97, of Piedmont, South Carolina, husband of the late Amelia Burger, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026.

Born in 1928, he was a son of the late Joseph Burger and Ola Burger. Charles lived a long life dedicated to his love of God and his family.

Charles was a skilled and well respected building contractor, owning and operating Charles Burger Builders for many years. Alongside his son Steve, he built over 200 homes in the Powdersville area. He was affectionately called "Chief" by his crew. He built his last home at the age of 77, before he retired to care for his beloved wife.

Faithful and passionate in serving the Lord, Charles taught Sunday School and Bible Studies for many years. In later years, he wrote over 1500 articles about the Bible, sharing his encouraging messages of faith and love with family and friends.

Charles gave the lasting gift of music to each of his children. Spending many hours listening to music, he was self-taught and became very accomplished on both the mandolin and acoustic guitar, emulating the style of Chet Atkins. For many years, he shared his talent within his church, playing in the band. He even gave free lessons to young people.

Charles had a busy life of juggling a business, being a husband and father, and his commitment to church and community. When he could squeeze out a few hours for himself, he enjoyed fishing on local lakes, many times with his son Steve. And on some warm afternoons, he could be found on the banks of a local pond with just his rods and reels...and his Bible.

Charles was known for his infectious smile, his warm sense of humor, and the wink in his eye reflected the joy he carried in life.

Charles and Amelia together raised five loving children: two sons, Randy Burger of Anderson, and Steve Burger of Piedmont; and three daughters, Linda Riddle of Easley, Phyllis Real (Lee) of Greenville, and Carol McDonald (Greg) of Easley. He is also survived by two brothers: Roy Burger of Powdersville, and Ray Burger of Anderson, South Carolina, as well as 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. He loved them all.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, James Burger, and a sister, Ruby Burger.

Charles will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
