Mr. Charles R. Garton, Jr., 70, husband of Mary Carolyn Gannon Garton, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 at his home.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, a son of the late Charles R. Sr. and Pearl Hess Garton, Mr. Garton attended West Virginia State College as well as Kent State and Greenville Technical College. He retired from Beverage Air and True Temper Corporation, after retirement, he worked with the Greenville County Sheriffs Department Work Release Program. Mr. Garton was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and loved watching West Virginia football. Over the years he was a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, and Youth Leader.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home is one brother, Larry Garton of Anderson.
He was predeceased by a son, Richard Allen Garton.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Unity Presbyterian Church in Piedmont, conducted by Reverend Mark Wright. Burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 1, 2012 in the Tyler Mountain Memory Garden Chapel, in Cross Lanes, WV.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday February 27, 2012 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Literacy Ministry of Unity Presbyterian Church at P.O. Box 737, Piedmont, SC 29673. Memorials also may be made to Interim Hospice at 155 Deacon Tiller Ct., Duncan, SC 29334.
The family is at the home.
