Charles Lee James

Mr. Charles Lee "Sarge" James, 81, of 124 Sabra Drive, loving husband of the late Loree Sumner James, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Laurens County, to the late Clayton S. and Sara Estes James, retired Sergeant James was active in the Masons and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Easley.

In 1968, the first "South Carolina Highway Patrolman of the Year" was awarded to then Corporal James. Later promoted, Sergeant James served his community for 30 years.

Surviving are his daughter, Debra J. Crawford and husband, Fred, of Greenville; a brother Richard A. James of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren, Lesley J. Baker and husband, Jay; Ashlee C. Crawford, Chad J. Crawford and wife, Beth; Alexia A. Crawford; and, two great-grandchildren Lilly and Lucy Baker. Sergeant James was predeceased by his wife, Loree Sumner James, and a son, Charles Dale James.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Matt Turner officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 432 Zion Church Road, Easley, SC 29642.

The family is at the Crawford residence, 110 Lanneau Drive in Greenville.
